Hands-On Learning for Veterinary Students
Davies Animal Medical Hospital is a privately owned, family-focused small animal practice led by Dr. Janna Perez, a former professor at Western University of Health Sciences. While we’re a general practice, our team manages a significant number of urgent care, emergency, internal medicine, and surgical cases alongside other specialized services.

Our state-of-the-art facility includes advanced radiology, a fully equipped surgical suite, a dedicated treatment area, a comprehensive dental department, and an in-house laboratory, ensuring we provide top-tier care and a great learning environment for our patients and students alike.
Program Structures
Two Week Rotation
Week 1: Surgery. We work closely with local rescues, and externs can expect to perform at least 100 cat spays and neuters during their rotation.
Week 2: Shadow and Surgery. Under the supervision of a mentor, externs will perform examinations, assist in surgery and dental procedures, aid with medical records, and practice invaluable communication and interpersonal skills.
Three Week Rotation
Week 1: GP Urgent Care. Perform CPR, laceration repairs, work up toxicology and complex cases, and learn how to appropriately triage emergency cases.
Week 2: Shadow and Surgery. Working closely with local rescues, externs can expect to perform at least 100 cat spays and neuters in a month, along with examinations and assisting in surgery and dental procedures under supervision.
Week 3: Shadow GP Urgent Care and Appointments. Continue building skills in CPR, laceration repairs, and triaging emergency cases, along with examinations, surgery, and medical records under the supervision of a mentor.
By the end of the rotation, externs will have improved their diagnostic and surgical skills, learned different treatment modalities, strengthened their communication skills, and most importantly, developed confidence!
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for eager and enthusiastic students who want to learn and aid with patient care while upholding the professional and ethical standards of our practice. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited DVM program and be a 3rd or 4th year veterinary student.
